About Me

"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow." - Ronald E. Osborn

Me in an Italian cafe in Rome

Hi, my name is Sérgio and I am a 35 years old Portuguese Software Engineer who has been contracting in IT for over 10 years for major European Banks and Telco’s.

My development background so far has been mostly in Java, C++ and SQL but I am always on the lookout for the next interesting piece of software that needs to be built. The “how to build it”… that’s the FUN part!

I believe Online Learning will play a major impact in our society in the coming years (and its long overdue!) with anyone having access to quality education regardless of their geographical location, wealth or social background.

I am also a great supporter of remote working and I am really impressed with how some "Remote-First" companies manage to create a really productive environment.

For the past few months I have been a camper at FreeCodeCamp where I have learned new Web Development skills. To me learning new technologies and methodologies is really exiting and FreeCodeCamp allows me to do this, along with the possibility to help non-profits.

I am always looking for like-minded people to bounce-off ideas and share coding “WAR stories”(1). Feel free to reach out!

(1) - The Java people will get the reference. If you don’t, don’t worry... I am not a violent person (I admit sometimes JavaScript tests this statement).
